What can you expect from holidays to Turkey? Beaches, bazaars and beautiful summer weather for starters, and a whole lot more besides!
It’s a popular destination for sun-seekers and it’s not hard to see why. During the summer, temperatures in Turkey can hit the high 30’s with over 300 days of sunshine per year. Even in the cooler months, the average temperature hovers around 15°C which is ideal if you want to get out and explore, either trekking across Turkey’s beautiful trails or wandering around the fascinating city of Istanbul.
During the summer, popular beach resorts like Olu Deniz in Dalaman, family-friendly Side in Antalya and Gumbet in the Bodrum region are magnets for sun-seekers, who flock here to enjoy the fabulous beaches and pristine shores of Turkey’s Mediterranean coast. If you want to get away from the crowds, you’ll often find some lovely quiet bays or coves along Turkey’s beautiful coastline, and if you head inline slightly you’ll come across tiny secluded villages and rugged rural scenery.
A trip to the ancient town of Bodrum is certainly a day well spent, as you can explore its winding streets and haggle in its bustling markets. An ancient 15th century castle towers over the town and harbour, and it’s here that you’ll find the superb Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology. Priceless gems and ancient treasures are on display, most of which were discovered on the seabed following catastrophic shipwrecks hundreds, even thousands of years ago. Admire the excellent collection before exploring the rest of the castle, with its ancient walls and winding staircases.
Just a few hours’ flight time from the UK and with a relatively low cost of living, not to mention plenty of sunshine and long, hot summers, holidays to Turkey are perfect for anyone who wants to soak up the sun, relax, and enjoy a diverse holiday destination with a long list of things to see and do.
